- The spirit of the game is to be respectful of other players' safety as well as their enjoyment of the game without risk or harm or disruption due to fits of anger over bad shots, the weather, errant bounces of the ball, or other misfortunes.
- Arrive at the first tee ready to play 10 minutes before your tee time.
- Be aware of the position of other players before swinging a club for practice or a golf shot.
- Allow players in the group ahead on the golf course to get out of range of any shot before hitting.
- Announce to workers on the course if a shot may possibly endanger them.
- Use the term "fore" to announce that a ball may be coming close to another player or group.
- Any movement, jangling of pocket change, conversation, or other noise is a distraction to someone about to make a shot. Remain silent and still while others are hitting.
- Keep a good distance away from a golfer about to hit a shot, and stand to the side of a golfer, not behind.
- Silence cell phones while on a golf course.
- Maintain a pace of play that allows your group to play as soon as the group ahead is out of range.
- If due to slow play a space of one hole opens between the group ahead and your group, invite the group playing behind to play through.
- Consider your next shot's distance and the appropriate club before it is your turn to hit, then have the club in hand and be ready to hit the shot when it is your turn.
- In a sand bunker, after playing your stroke, cover any hole created by a shot, rake the sand smooth of footprints made while in the bunker, and replace the rake to a position outside the bunker.
- Repair all divot holes on the green created by the impact of a ball upon landing.
- In taking a practice swing, do not make a divot with the club.
- While on the green, care should be taken not to scuff the surface with golf cleats, lean on a putter to support a stance, nor drag the flagstick.
- After putting, replace the flagstick properly before leaving the green so that it is standing upright.
- Entering a score on the scorecard should be done upon arrival at the next teeing ground, not while standing on the green where play just finished.
