- A ball is identified as being on the putting green if it is touching part of the putting green surface.
- The player whose ball lies furthest from the hole always putts first. (Rule 10-2)
- Position equipment away from the putting green surface.
- A player may mark the ball's position on the putting green so that it is not in the line of play of other players. Once the ball is properly marked, it may be cleaned. (Rules 16-1b and 20-1)
- If a practice stroke accidentally moves the ball, then the ball must be replaced to its original position and one penalty stroke is incurred.
- If the ball is embedded in the putting green surface a player is allowed to mark the ball, lift it, repair the pitch mark, and replace the ball in its original position.
- On the putting green loose impediments such as twigs and stones may be removed without penalty. (Rule 23)
- If a sprinkler head interferes with a player's line of play (when the ball is resting off the putting green), then the ball cannot be moved. The ball may be moved to the nearest point of relief under the following circumstances:
- The ball is lying on the sprinkler head.
- The player's stance requires standing on a sprinkler head. (Rule 24-2)
- If a ball when putted on the putting green strikes another ball at rest, then the ball that is struck must be returned to its original position. The person putting incurs a two-stroke penalty. (Rules 18-5 and 19-5a)
- If a ball from the putting green strikes the flagstick, whether being attended by another player or lying on the ground or the person attending the flagstick, then a two-stroke penalty is ocurred. Any shot from off the green that hits the flagstick does not incur a penalty.
- When a ball comes to rest between the side of the hole and the flagstick, the flagstick may be removed in such a way as to allow the ball to fall into the hole, completing the last stroke. (Rule 17-4)
- A period of ten seconds is allowed after the player has reached the hole to wait for a ball to drop that rests on the edge of the hole. (Rule 16-2)
