Out of Bounds

  • Out of bounds is an area defined as not part of the golfcourse, usually defoned by white stakes. Local rules may specify certain areas as out of bounds that are not marked, such as a road or parking lot.
  • A ball resting in bounds may be hit by a player whose stance is out of bounds.
  • A ball resting along the out-of-bounds line is not considered out of bounds unless the entire ball is resting out of bounds. If the ball is touching the golf course, then it is considered to be in bounds.
  • If a shot is perceived to be out of bounds, play a provisional ball from the same point prior to searching for the ball out of bounds. If the first ball is determined to be out of bounds one penalty stroke is added. (Rule 27-1)
